Chappies Again!

Howdee

I can never be accused of not being able to conquer chappies .... Tues, Wednesday evening... and this morning - Chappies seemed to be the route of choice..... i didnt choose to run it ... it just seemed to choose me. When I woke up this morning at 4:40 i thought that it was gonna be a struggle because my legs felt like lead. Carla and i went outside nobody was there!!! Two minutes later an entire posse arrived. John Legend, Trevor armed with iPod, Ryan, Ali and new entry Marlene!! 7 of us in total. We started off at a nice brisk pace for about 5km... Then the girls turned around as they only wanted to run 10.

Next second Trevors iPod was in and we were running 4:15 per km '@&€£¥'. It was crazy ... testosterone at its best. I recon we might have tested positive if we had a drug test hahahaha. Anyway bottom line a fun hard run, perhaps too hard before the weeked. I ran straight into the house and into my compression tights. i wore them under my work clothes the whole day....in this heat!!!! what we do for sport!

I had a recovery swim this arvie which seemed to loosen me up a bit :).

I'll chat tomorrow when we get to the hell!!! Think of us!!

Pack Run and Wednesday

;)

Tuesday nights run was a good hard
one; first i got dragged up chappies by Ryan. Very similar to how a dog plays with a toy....haha.... then off to join the pack run. There was a nice biggish group there. I spent most of my time running from the back to the front of the group... this proved to be a great interval set. we decieded to do speed session right at the end which i think everyone enjoyed...... a few moaned at me however hahaha .... shame.

Tonights run was a mixture... at first sluggish .... then I found a nice rythm.... hectic! So at least I finished strong. I cooled down on the beach with the dogs. I then quickly ran to swimming squad just in time to watch the guys finishing.

Gonna get an early start tommorrow..so its up at 4:40. I think about 4 people should pitch up to run Chappies!!

It hasn't been a great week so far - had heavy work commitments, so I've had to cut my training short. Its not easy trying to care of work, training, a house, etc on your own. Trying to keep head up for the weekend.

New Shoes, New Shoes

Howzit Guys

I'm stoked coz I got a new pair of Asics trail shoes today, just in time for the Midnight Hell!

Yesterday was a rest day - well sort of. We did a bit of an upper body work out - but that was about it.

Today an evening run of 20+ km. I don't mind Tuesday runs because I usually split it up, well in my head anyway. I'll run 12km before running club and then do the pack run. Pack runs are always fun and I really look forward to them .... perhaps...maybe .... because I get to drink a big draft beer afterwards... aaah the small pleasures.

I'm starting to think about the weekend now. Do I run with a small pack .... which will be good for the race or must I bite the bullet and run with my big training pack. A smaller pack will mean I can race harder ... :) .... :) hahahaha. Guess what I will choose.

Green Belt

Wow - how were the conditions for the Argus riders - out of control. I must say I take off my hat the guys out there on Sunday fighting the winds. Well done to all my mates who got through it!!

Sunday we managed to get a good group together again. The two Qlikview runners (Andrew and myself of course)joined by Carla, Ali, Ryan and JT. The plan was to run up Constantia nek then the Constantia Greenbelt then back home.

Once again full desert kit was worn plus full packs. On the way up Constantia Nek we were passed by some guys training for 2 Oceans - at first we let them go but the minute the gradient of the road increased we could see that the gap that they had put between us was decreasing. That was all we needed. Nobody said anything but we all just knew what to go. A couple of gears were dropped and we went sailing past. hahaha - It was a nice boost to confidence!!

After Constantia Nek we had an awesome run through the green belt. We bumped into Claire Kinsley armed with pepper spray along the way, like Carla and Ali doing some Ironman training. We got back to the top of Constantia Nek where Andi and I split off from the rest and ran a trail behind Bokkersmans Kloof to try add some time and distance in.

I must say it was really a pleasant run.

The Week ahead - Well I guess more of the same and starting to mentally deal with the Midnight Hell coming up on Saturday night - a 67km brutal night trail race.

Just Hanging Around

Oh.My.Word.

Let me start off by saying that I have a fear of heights, nothing major I just don't like 'em.

So suffice to say I was a bit nervous when I heard that we'd be going up to MacClear's Beacon - and not via Platteklip Gorge - but hey, how bad could it really be?

We parked at Rhodes Memorial and starting up towards Devil's Peak. Going this route you need to first summit Minor Peak and (carefully) go along Knife's Edge until you get to Devil's Peak proper!

They say the quickest way is always the straightest, so naturally we scaled up the rock face which even for me wasn't too bad if you didn't consider the long fall down but made the beacon is one relative piece, just dripping with sweat and my back aching from the pack, but the best was yet to come!

We went down Devil's relative quickly, its not one of my favourite paths, its very stoney, and then starting climbing, and climbing and climbing - and all the time I kept thinking,
"yes, sure no worries, I'm sure there's a path or something SOMEWHERE among the SHEER CLIFF faces".

Alas, no - this route is called Ledges - it was slow going, the true mountain people Iain, Janette, Tony & Pete were great! Their were two ledges where they used a garness of myself "just in case" - inspite of this and a complete panic attack going up the second ledge (I found myself hanging off table mountain unable to move) made it to the top. I have never EVER been soooo glad - anyway from MacClear's Rob and I ran the Puffer route back down to Constantia Nek, in two o'clock heat with my tongue swollen and stuck up on the roof my mouth with thirst.

This was truly one of those memorable runs - check out the photos!
