5hrs:05mins - A good day

Friday swim went well. I thought i would hurt more but I seemed to hang in there. I'm glad that we only had 2x100m sprints though.

Well Saturday run is done - It was a goodie today. We ran up Suikerbossie road and then proceeded to the off road section - a climb up LLandudno corner. Then over the 12 Apostles - overthen dam wall and down to Constantia Nek. From here we took the path behind Bokkermans Kloof - At one point we ran quite close to Chris Allans house, I kept my eyes open just in case he was waiting there with a cold coke ALAS - NO Chris.

We ran down in Hout bay and then off to the Sandy Bay dunes for some dune work - hahaha - this was fun. A one point we went up a 6m steep dune I think I was slipping down quicker than I was going up. I think my Heart rate peaked at about 250bpm.

On the whole a great day - no falls.

Rugby tonight at Newlands - as Ryan says - "gotta keep it tidy"

It's weekend

Well made it to the end of the week! That in itself seems like a bit of an acheivement today.
Had an "interesting" client session this morning in Paarl - got there earlier than expected, so was happy we could start sooner.
After that it was a quick dash to the gym where I spend 30 of the toughest minutes in my short life as a "gym-bo" - then back to work to finish helping another consultant with a data model that is due for demo on Monday. I haven't really started stressing about the run tomorrow - Chris (the physio/mental guidance guru) reckons I may have sprained my ankle (I snapped my ATFL ligament during my first 100miler last year and its the source of a lot of concern for this race) when i went over it last week. He reckons I should be able to run, but still there's always the nagging worry that if the heat, time, distance doesn't do me in - I may just trip over my own feet and do myself in...but that's the hand I'm dealt, now I just have to play it.
Anyway, wish me luck for tomorrow - five hours across the mountain.....

Friday 28 Feb 2009

A good start to the day today. Apart from Trevor bailing at the last minute before our run so that he could get some extra beauty sleep, everyone pitched up. Don't worry we will make him pay the price!! A short run on the beach with the dogs and then off we headed to Chappies. I must be honest I only properly woke up just before the halfway mark today. On the whole a nice "family" run out.

I hit the gym with Andie a little later - a hard upperbody. We focused on core and muscle fatigue. A 30min routine but a tough one.

Tonight as promised I will pitch at swim squad. I havent swum squad in a while - I'm goona bleeeed!! hahahaha.

Tommorrow a 5hr run waits - Ive decieded to do Leg 2 of Hout Bay Challenge, basically a run across the Twelve Apostles. Its a great run, with many challenging acents and decents.

Busy blogging from my cell phone. Had a good day training today. A swim in the am and a spin bike later on. Legs felt nice and loose so I'm looking forward to weekend.

Ive been trying to think of what to do this weekend .. in a way we should start looking at doing some serious sand runs .... or maybe a bit of the Puffer route ... mmmm..... o well we can make up our minds tomorrow.

Gonna start tomorrow off with a gentle run with some mates... carla (my iron wife), andie, john and trevor. We will meet at 5:15 ..... haha an early start. better get some sleep.

Fairly tired today which is strange because its supposed to be a rest week and I can't really imagine running right now, I think more than ever (and after last week)i have to keep reminding myself to stay focussed and not give in to the many whispers in my head. Been listening to the Cure a lot this week, they help when I feel like this

Rest is good

Howdee

Well today i decided to take a much needed rest day :). I had a busy day at work as well as a physio session with the magician Chris Allan in the evening. Apart from tired legs Chris said that all is well and that no lurking injuries were to be found!! Good news. I popped down to Rob Mannerswood's swim squad session in Hout Bay after Chris to see what they were up to. It was actually good fun to be on the side for a change. I chatted to Rob M for a while, he is always great to chat to when you need to be inspired. Carla my wife was in the class today, looks as if her swimming mojo is back! I think I'll swim the squad on Friday for fun.

So it looks like back to business tomorrow. I think tomorrow I'll try get a swim in the morning at gym and a bike session in the pm to start loosening up the legs for the weekend ahead.

Cheers for now

The other side of first Block Week

Well .... its over at last our first block week of MAMMOTH miles and hours on trails, mountains, roads, sand .... you name it we ran on it this weekend!!! On the whole legs and back felt cool the whole weekend apart from the last run on Monday night, legs felt like lead. Andrew and Ryan (Sandes) had to drag me up through the dunes at Sandy Bay to get the last few hours of training.

Today, tuesday - went for a 1.5km swim and upper body gym session - to try loosen up. hahaha the oposite happened, instead I feel like I need to lie down and sleep.....

Well gotta fly for now - got a meeting with QlikView!!

:)

First Block Weekend

The first block weekend came and went and to be honest I felt really, really crap the whole way.
Only to discover I think I had picked up a bit of a stomach bug, which actually manifested itself on Friday.
Anyway, ego aside, I made it somewhat intact although I don't think I ever want to feel like I did on Saturday in a long, long time.
I guess the cramping that resulted in Saturday was as a result of a weakened immune system and dehydration - so I have just been making sure I take as many electrolytes as I can and drinking lots of water/recovery drink!
